When her mother disappears, Clary Fray learns that she descends from a line of warriors who protect our world from demons. She joins forces with others like her and heads into a dangerous alternate New York called Downworld.

I must start this by saying that I have not read the books (but now being told to read them) and therefore did not really have much of clue about what this film was going to be about. Other than seeing the trailers and seeing that it is about different worlds and that everything you’ve heard is pretty much true.

Clary is drawing a strange symbol over and over again and she is really starting to wonder what it actually means and why she is drawing it. It doesn’t take too long into the film for Clary to discover that she is a Shadowhunter meaning she is half angel and can help fight against demons attacking the world.

So basically I was interested as soon as the film started as wanted to know exactly what was going on. I was not disappointed with this and the film gathers pace rather quickly with quite a lot of information to take in. It has plenty of action and a love story attached to it as well, but don’t fall into next Twilight thing with this film as it is nothing like Twilight . . . It is actually decent! I think this could turn into a very good series. I know though that as usual it doesn’t tick all the boxes with people who have read the book (that always happens).

I even found myself liking Jamie Campbell Bower who I have never really been impressed with seeing him in other films but he just seemed to work very well in this one. Maybe it’s with how mysterious the character is and he can play that part? I am not entirely sure how to explain it properly but I did like him!

It’s hard to say too much about what happens in the film without spoiling anything but it does keep you guessing and several moments will have you on the edge of your seat and maybe even jump a little bit too! I found this an enjoyable cinema experience for something a little bit different!
